The Trust was founded over 40 years ago by local families, including the family behind the Bisterne Estate, who wanted to create a long-term home where adults with learning disabilities could develop skills, confidence and independence beyond what was then available in general residential care.

From the beginning, life at Bisterne made the most of its outdoor setting. Horticulture, growing fruit and vegetables, cooking together and caring for plants helped residents connect with nature in a safe, nurturing environment while building practical skills and wellbeing.

Although the Trust has grown and evolved, that heritage still shapes our work. We continue to promote independence, improve health outcomes and recognise each person’s skills, talents and contribution.

We now support over 100 adults with additional needs through person-centred services that offer new experiences, meaningful activities and individual support to build life skills, social skills, confidence and self-esteem.

We believe everyone can grow and learn with the right opportunities, time and encouragement.

Our day services programme offers a wide range of outcome-focused activities that help people learn and develop skills, build relationships and increase their independence. Our supported living homes in Southbourne and residential living home in Bisterne, Ringwood, are both rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

All services are open to people aged 18 and over.
